Maybe you are in between services if you have turned 18 and ended your work with CAHMS or maybe you have relapsed and struggling with recovery. I understand you may feel stuck and trapped in your relationship with food, scared about what will happen if you don’t have this coping tool and suffering from depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.

Restricting food, fasting, dieting or purging can cause high levels of distress as well as shame, anxiety and guilt, with overwhelming, repetitive thoughts about food, eating and body image. Your relationship with food may be a significant part of your life and I am aware you may feel an ambivalence to change. We acknowledge and explore this together in a non-judgemental environment. We understand how the eating disorder started, unravel the pros and cons and find out what may be keeping you stuck.

I see the importance of establishing a therapeutic relationship, this is a gentle process where you begin to feel valued, heard and understood as you make sense of your experiences, and beliefs, weight conflicts and triggers. We create a lifeline to understand what you were like before the eating disorder, and any stages of childhood that left you feeling vulnerable, we reflect on your personality traits and focus on your life in more detail.

Together, we look at managing your symptoms and their effect on your physical health. I offer an integrative approach entwined with psychoeducation based on the latest research, to empower you with knowledge and wisdom. Psychological aspects and underlying issues are explored, looking at the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a safe, compassionate space, which is necessary for your growth and recovery.

Throughout our therapeutic relationship, you will find healthier ways of managing emotions and stress and learn to break free of old habits as you transform your relationship with food. We see your unique strengths and look at your aspirations as you begin to see a future with freedom away from unhealthy eating patterns and destructive behaviours.

Recovery is possible.
