Counselling & Psychotherapy

As an integrative counsellor, I work drawing on a number of approaches and techniques to reflect your individuality.

I view every client as unique and relate to you by attuning to your experience, offering empathy and focusing on your needs.

We can often find it difficult to process our thoughts and feelings, especially when life feels confusing. I offer a confidential space, where you can speak about aspects of your life that may have been hidden, a space to get angry or even laugh. My warm, compassionate and calm nature helps build rapport and trust creating a caring and accepting atmosphere as we explore what’s going on for you.

We make meaning from our life experiences, therefore, together we may take some time to reflect on the past and childhood, where difficulties and pain may have originated. The attachment strategy we form in our earliest years can shape the reactions we have and the reactions we create in others throughout our lives. We may begin to notice some of the limitations imposed on you by the past. As I attune to your experience you may begin to see yourself differently along with other relationships in your life.

Step by step, at a pace that feels comfortable for you, we begin to understand the root cause of what’s going on for you. Collaboratively, we curiously explore your world together. We can use images, metaphors, visuals, whatever feels right for you in a way that best fits your needs in the moment. I provide you with an environment where emotional expression is encouraged and accepted. As we navigate a way forward you begin to process your thoughts and feelings at a deeper level, which enables insight and builds awareness, towards building your autonomy.

I work relationally, placing a great amount of emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and believe the quality of the relationship is key. The power of talking and human connection should not be underestimated. Research shows relationships are what matters most to people and give us a sense of who we are. When relationships break down they can often leave us feeling distressed, confused or not good enough. They fail to give us what we need. Therefore, if relationships are the source of many psychological problems, they can also contribute significantly towards healing.

Using a Humanistic approach, I see you as the expert in your life. I will not give you advice or tell you what to do, instead, we will work together where I will support and encourage you to develop your inner resources. I will help identify your strengths towards finding a way forward that suits you, incorporating your physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.

The number of sessions will vary according to each client. We review our work regularly to ensure you are getting what you need from the sessions. Therefore I welcome your honest feedback to understand what’s helpful and unhelpful in our work and acknowledge your progress where you are now and where you want to be in the future.

"We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know."
